Top Projects of 2022: Full Kitchen Renovation – Fulham, SW6

Full kitchen renovation and internal upgrades in Fulham South West London. This featured a brand new kitchen by Day True, with needed wooden parquet flooring by the Natural Wood Floor Co. Additional work on electrical and plumbing upgrades was also taken on along with new glazing to the garden and a new skylight.The project began in October 2021 and finished up in February 2022, being one of our first project completions of the year.

We completed a full kitchen renovation, with a brand new kitchen by Day True, with need wooden parquet flooring by the Natural Wood Floor Co. Additional work on electrical and plumbing upgrades were also taken on along with new glazing to the garden and a new skylight.

Challenges:

The subfloor was not level so we had to even it out with self-levelling compound before installing the new parquet flooring.

Happy New Year – How to plan your 2023 home updates

Are Your Plans for the New Year to Update Your Home?

It’s a great time to start planning your home improvements and renovations  – and with another bank holiday today to relax with – why not take some time to assess your home.Here are the Red Box team’s tips for every home – great for a New Year update and refresh too!

  1. Add storage and or shelving around the house

Adding Storage and shelving is a great way to get organised and de-clutter your worktops, floors and counter spaces.  You can add storage baskets to the shelves to improve the aesthetic and store smaller items.

  1. Revamp your front door and entry way.

From outside to inside, the front door is your entry to your home – you see it every time you leave and re-enter the home, so if walking through your threshold gives you stress or frustrations – time to get that organised, cleaned and perhaps a lick of fresh paint or new lighting.

  1. Update your lighting

A great way to refresh the look and feel of your home is to replace the light fixtures (and switch plates too) – the right lighting can help transform any home.

  1. Redecorate!

A fresh coat of paint or new wallpaper can help give you that new home feel.

  1. Have a New Years purge.

Why not this afternoon have a clear out, purge any un needed items that you can donate.

  1. Blank walls? Add artwork or photo prints

Personalise your home, photos and art prints are a great way to add personality and colour to a plain wall.

  1. Repairs

Nothing like a hole in your wall, or broken skirting to ruin the look of your home.  Have a look through for any repairs or redecorating spots that need doing and make a list – then give us a call tomorrow to start planning your refurbishment and repairs!

Here’s our handy winter home tips.It’s been a chilly December so far,  with rising heating prices this winter – here’s a few handy hints to get the most heat out of your home!


Adjust your furniture.
Make sure your furniture isn’t blocking your radiators, this will prevent the heat circulating optimally around the room.
Also make sure your sofa or bed aren’t too close to external walls, as you’ll feel the chill more.

 

Check your insulation.
 Although insulating your home can be a pricey method, making sure your home is properly insulated is one of the most cost-effective ways to save you money in the long run.

 

Check for draughts –
Cold air leaks through cracks in doors or from windows, seal up any draughts and cover any windows at night to keep the cold night air on the outside!

Choosing the Right Skirting for Your Home

Are you ignoring your skirting boards? If you’re planning a home redecorating project this Autumn don’t forget your skirting!

Here’s a few tips and ideas on skirting styles to help you choose your home design

 

Classic or Bold?

 

Traditionally, skirting was used in homes to hide uneven finishes with walls and flooring. From a modern advantage, they also work as a good “buffer” for avoiding to scuff the bottom of the walls with a vacuum cleaner, broom or mop etc.

In the past they could be quite dull, painted same colour as the walls, but now interior designers are using them as a statement / design highlight.

 

Choose your profile!

As well as colours options, you also have a lot of styles or “profiles” for skirting to consider when updating your home décor.

Light up your skirting

Have you considered adding lights to your skirting boards?  LED Strip lighting for a low lighting glow is a great modern twist to the classic skirting board options of the past.

What material?

Did you know skirting board options come in a range of materials, not just wooden planks.
How about tiled skirting board designs? These can finish a bathroom, kitchen or hallway off to perfection!

Colour Block Match your skirting and door frames

You can make a room or your hallway more interesting by adding matching coloured skirting boardings and door frame.   This is a great way to add a bit of personality to a subtle wall colour, leaving you with an aesthetically pleasing finish.

Water Saving Home Renovation Tips

This week is World Water Week so we thought a great opportunity to talk about water saving home renovation tips…

If you’re renovating your home, it’s a great opportunity to take a look at the plumbing and your water usage, could you use less?

Here’s our handy hints whilst you shop for your home…

 

1. Choose water saving shower heads.

We all know that taking short showers is better than a full bath, however not all shower heads are as good at saving water as you might think.

When buying a new shower head to match your brand spanking new bathroom, look for the volume in litres it uses per minute of the shower. The lower the number, the better for water consumption the shower head is.  Many modern shower heads have clever technology now, to ensure you still get the power shower effect but with a low flow head.

There are a few options available when choosing a water saving shower head:

  • Aerating shower heads which mix air with water to reduce the volume required, while still creating above average pressure from the head itself.
  • Pulsating shower heads which use a rotating wheel inside the head to create a massaging effect
  • Reduced flow shower heads or flow regulator shower heads reduce the flow into the shower head, which by itself may cause lower water pressure.

 

Can’t live without a bath?

If you really can’t live without a bath, choose a compact bath, a reduced-capacity bath is an effective way to ensure you use less water.  This way you’ll get the height of the water, but you’ll use less to fill the tub.

2.Opt for Low Flow Taps and a Dual Flush Toilet

Low Flow Taps mostly operate the same way as water saving shower heads, mixing water with air to create a strong jet stream, therefore using less water than a regular tap fixture.

We recommend trying before you buy in a show room, to see if you’re happy with the water pressure these provide – as it’s not for everyone.  Alternatively choose a low flow tap that has a multi setting function – regular and eco mode, then you can switch back and forth when necessary.

When it comes to your WC/Toilet  – most modern designs are dual flush (which save almost half the amount of water than an older standard toilet)

 

3. Water Saving Smart Appliances

If you’re upgrading your plumbing and appliances – why not choose a smart appliance.  Washing machines and dishwashers also come with water saving technology they  adjust the water level to suit the load and minimise the amount of detergent needed while maintaining a superior clean.  The best way to reduce wasting water on each cycle is to ensure each load Is full.If you are planning to do work in your home including bathroom replacements, then these points are, some to consider and preparation is the real key to a successful result that you will be happy with.

Summer has arrived in London, take advantage of the good dry weather to work on a project or two around the house.

We hope these simple tips from team Red Box will help inspire you to kick start your home improvements.

1. Update your Wardrobes and cupboards

Clear out your wardrobes, cupboards and storage for a clean and a makeover.  Summer is the perfect time to have a sort through and update your furniture. Why not clean and repaint that tired looking wardrobe or storage unit in your bedroom for a fresh look?

Whilst you’ve got everything out of the wardrobe you can then see if there’s anything you can donate, sell or keep – making room for the sales!

How about a new walk-in wardrobe or custom built wardrobe? Our bespoke teams can help plan and build your dream storage unit!

 

2. Service your heating units

Whilst the heat is on outside, you won’t need your central heating indoors- now’s the time to get your annual service out of the way before the Autumn/Winter rush.

Engineers and servicing companies are often less busy in the summer months as people forget about their heating and boiler in the warmer temperatures.  Come October, they can be quite busy getting homes ready for winter as the cooler weather returns.

This goes for chimneys and fireplaces too, get those cleaned out now so they’re fresh and ready for Autumn & Winter.

3. Replace or repair windows

As with your heating, those good weather days are perfect time to get those tired old windows replaced or repaired. Come Autumn/Winter you’ll be thankful that those cracks and holes are filled, and the heat is kept in the house – making your home also more energy efficient and money saving in the long run too!

4. Roofing repairs

Whilst the sun is out and there’s less rain showers, it’s time to get that tile in the roof repaired or replaced. Whilst you’re at it – check on your loft insulation too.

Summer is also a prime time in the housing market for buyers and sellers, and one thing that can be considered/inspected is the quality of your roof.

The summer months have more (and better quality of light) which means you’ll be able to spot any problems and any builders can work more efficiently without light/time restraints. More day light hours also mean the builders can work safely on your property for longer each day, barring any complications, completing the work in fewer days – giving you a little less disruption!

5. Bathroom/Kitchen remodelling

A lot of families schedule their bathroom/kitchen remodelling during the summer holidays, scheduling the work during the school holidays on a week when your family are away can help minimise the frustration and disruption to your daily routine.  Having no or limited access to your bathroom or kitchen can be a challenge.

Complete Property Renovation in Kensington West

Next up on our 2021 project highlights we completed a full property renovation of a home at Kensington West. Which included new bathrooms, new doors, new flooring, new plumbing, new electrics, new kitchen, new skirting and decorating throughout.The project took 2 months to complete (1 October 2021 through to 1st January 2022).  The owners said of the finished project, “it all looks really nice exactly as I had visualised it, so well done to the team”

Some walls and door openings were not straight so hanging the door and putting in new door frames was problematic – we have to straighten them, put in new frames and fill a lot.
